The 2017 Western Heritage Equine School Program offers four options for student groups:

9:00 am–1:00 pm: Elementary Student Program (mainly grades 2nd-5th graders)

This 4-hour action packed program begins with a large group introduction kicked off by cowboy campfire music in the auditorium. The students meet their tour guides for the visit, receive bandannas, enjoy some singing, introductions and guidelines. The large group then moves to the main arena for a fantastic display of horsepower. Students then split into small groups with their tour guides to visit the Expo hall for hands-on activities like the vaulting area, roping, small animal petting area, teaching stations where students learn how horses are used today like the draft horse section and the mounted police division. There are also presentations by equine authors, artists and a historian that weaves these cowboy skills the kids will try out to their roots in our American history on the ranches. We close the program in our large group together with campfire cowboy music back in the auditorium.

1:00 pm–3:00 pm: Small Groups (students or adults)

This fun 2-hour program provides your group with a tour guide that hosts your students or adults through the Expo hall visiting various booths and presentations. We do have tour guides on hand who are therapeutic riding instructors and counselors who work with horses to help in the healing process. This afternoon program usually suits adult care programs, therapy programs and groups with wheelchairs or baby strollers the best because the Expo hall is the least busy.

3:00 pm–6:00 pm: After School Program (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Church Youth Groups, etc.)

The after school program is slated to accommodate groups for the time that they can arrive and as long as they can stay. Groups will check in to get their wristbands, bandannas and tour guides. Each group enjoys presentations throughout the Expo hall and will be able to catch some main arena horse activity as well.

3:00 pm–9:00 pm: After School Program + a Pizza Party with a Rodeo Meet & Greet the Michigan High School Rodeo

$5.00 per person (adults and students) – The full group payment must be sent to Marilyn Graff at 7325 Holton Rd., Holton, Mi. 49425 by Monday, February 13th . If some parents / adults will be arriving later than the initial group around 3 pm, they must still pay the $5 each for the program. Checks should be made out to the Michigan Horse Expo.

    1. the MSU Rodeo afternoon performances Feb 11th or 12th
    2. the MiHSRA State Finals in June
    3. the MLBRA State Finals in July
  • the wristband given for the programs allows students to attend the Expo on their own time with their family as well
